Catalogue published for "infrastructure", a double exhibition that took place at the Institute of Visual Arts (INOVA) University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (Dec. 10, 1999 – March 10, 2000) and Anton Kern Gallery, New York in March 2001. Manfred Pernice weaves various elements in two parallel directions: the American destiny of descendants of German immigrants who became butchers in Wisconsin and the memory of famous characters from German comic strips. Using elves as an iconographic reference, the exhibit points toward the common origin of German immigrants and the creator of the comic strips: the village of Wehen.
